Curtis “Gene” Taylor
SWANTON, Md. - Curtis “Gene” Taylor, 83, of 16750 Maryland Highway, Swanton, passed away Friday, Jan. 29, 2010, at his residence.
Born Dec. 8, 1926, in Piedmont, W.Va., he was the son of the late Alvie and Thelma (Tichnell) Taylor.
“Gene” was a United States Army Veteran, having served during World War II. He retired from Westvaco Corp, with 45 years of service, having worked in power and recovery.
He attended Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. Mr. Taylor was a member of Queens Point V.F.W. #6775, McCoole, a member of Victory Post #155 American Legion, Westernport, a member of the Folly Run Sportsman Club, a member of the Deer Park Sportsman Club, and a member of the National Rifle Association.
He leaves behind his wife, Wanda (Virts) Taylor; three sons, Stanley Taylor and wife Darlene, Allan Taylor and wife Robin, and Donald Taylor and wife Diana, all of Swanton. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Stacy Conroy and husband Sean of Inwood, W.Va., Shelly Lee Taylor of Swanton, Timmy Taylor and wife Elizabeth of Frederick, Curt Allan Taylor of Swanton, Drew Warren Taylor of Swanton, Derek Kyle Taylor of Swanton, Donnie Taylor Jr. of Cumberland, David Taylor of Swanton, and a great grandson, Joshua Conroy.
The family will receive friends at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Saturday, Jan. 30, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Boal Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday at 3:30 p.m
Interment will be in Garrett County Memorial Gardens, Oakland, where military honors will be accorded by the Deer Park V.F.W. and the West Virginia Honor Guard.
