WESTERNPORT - Melvin "Bob" Thomas White, 73, of Westernport, Md., died Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010, at his home in Keyser, after a fight against cancer.
Born May 12, 1936, he was the son of the late Russell and Fannie (Breeden) White. His wife, Sharon (Phillips) White, and a brother, John, also preceded him death.
"Bob" worked most of his adult life at the Westvaco Paper Mill until his retirement in 2001. He was involved in the Local International Paperworkers Union #676, serving as president for several terms as well as holding various officer positions. He was also a member of the Victory Post #155 American Legion, Westernport, Md., and previously served in the United States Army in the 503rd ARCT, 101st Airborne Division.
"Bob" is survived by three sons, Bruce and wife Carmen of Houston, Texas, Mark of Keyser, Robert and wife Teresa of Midland, Md., and two granddaughters, Angela and Kristen. He is also survived by a sister, Frances Harris and husband Roy of Wichita, Kansas, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, Md., on Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. John Park officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
