Geraldine P. "Gerry" Smith, 75, of Keyser, WV, formerly of Bloomington, MD and Lady Lake, FL, died Thursday, July 3, 2008 at the Grant County Nursing Home in Petersburg, WV.
Born on July 21, 1932 at Cumberland, MD, she was a daughter of the late Gerald and Helen (Eichhorn) Paris. She also was preceded in death by her husband, William E. "Sonny" Smith on October 20, 2004 and by a son, Gregory Allen Smith.
Mrs. Smith was retired as a registered nurse in the private practice of the late Dr. Phillip G. Staggers and also at Potomac Valley Hospital. She was a 1950 graduate of the former Central High School in Lonaconing, MD and the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She was Methodist by faith and was also a member of the Ladies Golf Association while living in Lady Lake.
Surviving are two sons, Michael E. Smith and wife Debbie of Keyser and David T. Smith of Cameron, Texas; one brother, Robert Paris and wife Phyllis of Keyser; three grandchildren, Kayla Smith and Brianne Smith, both of Keyser and Amber Shade and husband Shawn of Hampton, VA; one great-grandchild, Kaaden Nizer; one niece and several nephews. Also surviving are two brothers-in-law, Robert Smith and wife Joy of Keyser and John Smith of Huntington, WV.
A memorial service will be conducted at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Sunday, July 13 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Donna Leatherman officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
Private inurnment will be in the Potomac Memorial Gardens Chapel, Keyser.
