Clifford H. Hemstock
BREWSTER, Mass. - Clifford Harold Hemstock, 85, of Brewster, Mass., passed away on Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010, at Epoch of Brewster after spending the day surrounded by his family. 
Born in New Haven, Conn., on Sept. 1, 1924, to Jennie May Gray Hemstock and Clifford H. Hemstock, Cliff left high school in January 1942 to join the Navy and fought in the Pacific in World War II.
He also served in the Korean conflict, rising to the rank of chief petty officer.
He married his sweetheart from Hillhouse High School, Pauline (Polly) Estelle Weber of West Haven, Conn., on June 19, 1947.  They raised their family in Connecticut, Maryland, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Illinois and Upper Michigan before settling on Cape Cod.
His professional career included engineering positions for Pond Lilly and West Virginia Pulp and Paper Company (WestVACO), industrial bearing sales for SKF Industries and running Peninsula Supply in Ishpeming, Mich., with his wife.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a step-brother, James Clancey and his wife Ann of Wallingford, Pa.; his daughter, Polly Hemstock and her spouse Susan Leven of Harwich; sons Cliff of Lexington, Ky., Mike and his wife Debbie of Bartlett, Ill., Joe and his wife Heidi of Marinette, Wisc.; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.  He was predeceased by his parents, his son Freddie and his step-sister Virginia Clancey Susla.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2, at Morris, O’Connor & Blute Funeral Home, 678 Main Street, Harwich Center. 
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Cape Catholic Church, 468 Stony Brook Road, Brewster, followed by burial at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Avenue, Bourne.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
