After demonstrating for an innumerable time their need and purpose in the community after the recent Railsyde fire, the Keyser Volunteer Fire Department will be holding its second annual golf tournament fundraiser on September 13, 2008 at 9 a.m. at the Polish Pines.
The tournament will consist of a two-man golf scramble. The cost for registration is $45 per person.  Participants can register at the Pines up until the day of the event or by contacting a member of the fire department.
A lunch will follow the tournament in the Pines banquet room.
Jimmy Teets, president of the Keyser VFD, noted that he and Keyser VFD, Brett Biddle modeled the tournament after the one held by the Moorefield VFD.
Last year a total of 52 people participated in the event and $18,000 was raised by the Fire Department.
All proceeds from the fundraiser will go towards purchasing new equipment for the fire station.  Teets added that the fire department hopes to buy a new fire truck.
There are currently 11 fire trucks, of those nine are in service, two are antiques and are used in parades.  Of those 11 fire trucks the fire department owns seven.
In addition, to holding a golf tournament, the Keyser VFD also holds Bingo every Saturday at the Keyser Fire Hall Station #2 and a spaghetti dinner to raise money.
Keyser VFD, is strictly volunteer and operates mainly on donations and fundraisers.
Anyone wishing to register may do so by calling Jimmy Teets at (304) 790-1303 or engineer, Roger Newlin at (304) 813-1916.
