CHARLESTON – Gov. Joe Manchin has named Pendleton County Prosecuting Attorney Jerry D. Moore as the second judge in the 22nd Judicial Circuit which covers Pendleton, Hardy and Hampshire counties.
Senate Bill 291, which passed during the 2008 regular legislative session, added three new circuit judges – one each in the 9th, 22th , and 24th judicial circuits.
“Judge Moore was selected from among a great group of applicants and I know he will serve the district with honor and fairness,” Manchin said.
“He is a highly respected attorney with a strong work ethic and, with this appointment of an additional judge, we should see a more efficient judicial process in Hampshire, Hardy and Pendleton counties.”
Judge Moore has served as Pendleton County's prosecuting attorney since 1988. He also maintained a civil practice in Pendleton County until 2006, when the prosecuting attorney position became full time.
From 1982-88, he was the mental hygiene commissioner for Pendleton County.
He has also handled criminal and civil appeals before the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals.
“I am honored to accept this important judicial position and I am looking forward to serving the citizens of these three counties in a fair and impartial manner,” Moore said.
Moore received a bachelor's degree from West Virginia University in 1974 and his law degree from WVU in 1977.
He is married and has one son, currently a student at WVU.
