Two Keyser sisters are once again hoping that area residents will remember to help those who are less fortunate than themselves when they do their fall housecleaning.
Cheri Alt and Christy Barnett have scheduled their annual Community Closet Cleanup Giveaway for Monday, Nov. 9, and Tuesday, Nov. 10, at the Keyser American Legion building on Main Street.
They are therefore urging anyone doing their fall cleaning, or cleaning out their closets for the holidays, to donate items to the giveaway, which is targeted toward “anyone who might need a helping hand.”
“We'll take nice used clothing, toys, books, household items, furniture ... anything that someone might be able to use,” Alt said.
The premise of the idea is simple: Kind-hearted folks can donate items they no longer need to the giveaway and other folks, whose present lot in life may not be quite as fortunate, are welcome to stop by and pick up anything they might need.
Free of charge and no questions asked.
“We try to target the people who may have fallen through the tracks,” Alt explained. “It's open to everyone. If you think you need something, stop by. We may have it.”
The giveaway is being held in conjunction with Helping Hands of the Potomac Highlands, and Boyce-Houser Post 41 American Legion has donated the space.
According to Alt, anything left over after the giveaway is given to other local agencies which may benefit from the generosity of others.
“All the stuff left over is donated back locally,” she said. “We try to divide it up and put it where it will get the most use.”
Anyone wishing to donate items for the giveaway may call Alt at 304-813-5746 or Barnett at 304-790-0522. Pick up is available.
Anyone who might like to donate a storage unit for the charity is asked to call one of the above numbers.
