MT. STORM W.Va. -

The United Methodist Churches of Mt. Storm and Bayard have undertaken a project that will help stop the spread of malaria by supplying treated bed nets for the children of Africa.
To realize a goal to raise funds and "slam dunk" the disease of malaria, the churches will sponsor a day-long activity called Nothing But Nets at Union High School, Mt. Storm, on Saturday, April 12, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Teams of at least five members each will participate in basketball games throughout the day, and the registration fee per team is $10.
Those of the community are encouraged to form teams of classmates, family members, church friends, fellow workers, or acquaintances to take part in the Nothing But Nets activity.
The age to be part of a team is from kindergarten to adult, and the games are open to both males and females.
Several little league teams have already signed up to participate.
The entrance fee for the games will be a free will offering, and refreshments will be available.
During the first year of this particular program, over $18 million was raised to combat malaria in such African nations as Zimbabwe, Zambia, Chad, and the Congo.
Over the past year in West Virginia alone, 700,000 bed nets were provided and sent to Africa, making a difference in the death rate of small children in that country.
Each bed net costs $10.
Those wishing to register a team, make a donation, or for additional information may call (304) 693-7074 or (304) 735-5783.
