KEYSER — Mayor William “Sonny” Rhodes will preside over his first meeting Monday afternoon, convening a special session of the Keyser City Council to appoint a fifth council member and name new members to various citizen-advisory boards.
Rhodes said he called the meeting, to be held at 4 p.m. in the City Hall meeting room, primarily to nominate a Keyser resident to fill his seat on the five-member council. Rhodes had been a member of the council, and his election last month as mayor created the vacancy.
Although Rhodes makes the appointment, his nomination must be approved by a majority of the four sitting council members.
In addition, Rhodes said he plans to make nominations for new membership on citizen-advisory bodies, including the
Water, Sanitation and Recreation boards. Rhodes told the News Tribune Friday that there would be “some new faces” on those boards.
The regular session of the mayor and council is scheduled for Monday, July 13. If approved by the council, the new council member would likely be sworn in at that meeting.
