Mineral County honors retirees at annual banquet

KEYSER –  Superintendent of Schools Skip Hackworth found himself on both sides of  the podium Monday evening at the Mineral County Board of Education Retirement Banquet.
Not only did he pay tribute to “many of our finest employees for their years of service to the boys and girls of Mineral County,” but he himself was also honored by Greg Phillips, director of facilities and maintenance, for his “life of service to education and to the community.”
Hackworth was one of the 32 employees who were honored for their retirement during the annual banquet hosted by the Mineral County Board of Education and First United Bank and Trust.
Shelley Friend, Keyser Community Branch manager for First United, called the occasion “a milestone.”
Hackworth told the crowd his nine years serving at the helm of Mineral County Schools have been “a lot of fun,” and added that he “appreciates the friendships” he developed over that time.
“It's been a great opportunity becoming a part of the Mineral County Community,” he said.
Each retiree present for the dinner received a tribute from either their supervisor or someone who had worked closely with them over the years. Offering those tributes were: Skip Hackworth, who spoke on behalf of Elk Garden Primary School's retiring principal, Charles Keller; incoming Superintendent of Schools Rob Woy, who spoke for Frankfort High School; Susan Ray, principal, Frankfort Middle School; David Albani, Keyser Pre-K/Head Start; John Campbell, principal, Keyser Primary-Middle School; Kelli Wilson, principal, Mineral County Alternative School; Robin McDowell, principal, New Creek Primary School; Paula Athey, principal, Wiley Ford Primary School; Greg Phillips, Mineral County Bus Garage; and Tom Denne, director of psychological services, and Linda Marsh, attendance director, who spoke for the Student Services and central offices

Burlington Primary School: Janet Biser.
Bus garage: Charles Burgess, Grace Dixon, Russell Mason, Robert Rinker, and Robert Schadler.
Central office: John Haines, Skip Hackworth.
Central office/Student Services: Diane Frush.
Elk Garden Primary School: Charles Keller.
Frankfort High School: Larry Hutzell.
Frankfort Middle School: Sharon Clark, Nancy Arbogast, Charles Clark Jr., Fred Kesner, Susan Long and Joyce Michaels.
Frankfort Intermediate School: Stephanie Alt.
Keyser High School: Richard Boehmes, Carolyn Ritchie, and Nancy VanMeter.
Keyser Pre-K/Head Start: Brenda Lewis.
Keyser Primary-Middle School: Shirley Coleman, Hazel Conrad, and Nancy Starcher.
Mineral County Alternative School: Clyde Burdock.
Mineral County Technical Center: Jeanne Gurtler and Lynn Luvara.
New Creek Primary School: Charlene Parrill and Charmaine Pritts.
Wiley Ford Primary School: Diann Manns and Nancy Merritt.
Susan Grady, director of personnel services, gave the closing remarks, congratulating each of the retirees on their accomplishments.
