KEYSER - Potomac Valley Hospital Pharmacy and another regional pharmacy have donated medical supplies for a rural medical clinic in Nicaragua as part of a new project sponsored by the Keyser Rotary Club.
Rotary president Hayward Wilson says, “We certainly appreciate this generous support. It bodes well for our initiative in Nicaragua.”
The idea for the special service project came from a member of the Keyser Rotary Club.
“Keyser Rotary is blessed to have a member, Dr Ken Mckaye, who has a home locally but spends his time between Nicarauga and Malawi, Africa,” Wilson explains.
“We now have two projects, one in Africa to teach children and adults about AIDS (The Hiding Hyena Project) and one in South America, at the Cultural Center of Apoyo, Nicaragua, which includes the clinic and several other cultural development initiatives.
“As we did with the Hiding Hyena Project in Malawi, we hope to garner sponsorship from our Rotary District and then we will encourage Rotarians from other clubs to go there for a week or so to volunteer in the clinic, teach English, hold educational exercises on small scale farming, sanitation and other simple skills to make a better life.”
This opportunity to serve will be open to non-Rotarians, also, says Rotary liaison Wayne Spiggle.

“Out-of- pocket expense will be at cost for participants, about $30 a day for meals and lodging, plus air fare.  The excursion allows a lot of time for recreation so it is an opportunity for a vacation combined with service, “ he said.
