During Monday’s City Council meeting, council members will announce the bid winner and prices for the blighted lot project, for a property that rests between Oak and Cherry streets. Bids for the project were solicited on July 11.
The project will require the bid winner to excavate a large pile of dirt with whatever unknown debris may lie underneath. Once removed, rubble debris will be transported to the city’s rubble landfill off of Rt. 46. Junk and other refuse that may be found on the site will be deposited in an on-site dumpster for disposal at a regular landfill.
If the bidder discovers any type of hazardous material the project will be halted immediately and will be dealt with by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP)
A possible busted sewer pipe or sewer line is thought to lie under the debris, causing run off into a neighboring yard. The run off tested positive for intolerable levels of fecal coliform, a byproduct of human or animal waste.
The contract does not require the bidder to install a drainage system for the run off.
“All we want you to do is excavate the dirt, get the material out of there, and we’ll take it from there,” said Jim Hannas during a July 11 interview with the News-Tribune.
The City Council meeting will take place on Monday July 28 at 4 p.m. in the council chambers.
