CARPENDALE — Those interested in taking an active roll in the Town of Carpendale are urged to file for the upcoming election.
Candidate filing is set for March 9-23 in preparation for the June election for mayor and five commissioners.
In other news, Mayor Butch Armentrout updated residents recently on the Rails to Trails project at the tunnel. He said that representatives of the Department of Highways (DOH)
have been out to look at the bridge in preparation for designing phase two. The second phase will include renewing the ties on the bridge, diagonal decking on the top and railing on the side. He said DOH plans to advertise the project in March.
Armentrout said that S&S Electrical Contractors had also looked at lighting for the tunnel and security cameras.
Armentrout continues to participate in the Potomac River Committee meetings. He reports that he is still pushing for river access in Carpendale for recreation.
He reported on his recent trip to Charleston for Mineral County Day where local officials took their wish lists to the capitol.
Police Chief Mike Miller presented his report for the council, noting 16 calls for January including trespassing, noise and animal violations, traffic stops, petty theft and abandoned vehicles.
Armentrout will be traveling to Charles Town this week for budget training and the 2010 Census will be using the city building for census training.
