KEYSER — Building on the success of the summertime Friday Nite Live concerts, downtown Keyser will come alive this Saturday with a combination Octoberfest and Italianfest.
Keyser City Councilman Dave Sowers, who coordinates the Friday night weekly concerts held in August, is at it again, working with downtown pubs and restaurants to develop an event designed to appeal to all ages.
“We're trying to pull people downtown,” Sowers said. “We're just looking for folks to come to downtown Keyser and have a good time.”
The combination festival will get underway at 3 p.m. and continue until about 8:30 p.m. Live music will be provided by the bands 40 West and Absent Minded, with chairs set up on Main Street, which will
be blocked to traffic.
Sowers said everyone is welcome to attend the festival, including those arriving on two-wheels, perhaps from an afternoon drive checking out the Mountain State's blooming fall foliage. “We want bikers there too,” the councilman said. “They're welcome.”
As with the Friday Nite Live concerts, Keith Lewis of Martie's Hog Dog Stand will add to the festive atmosphere by roasting a pig for festival goers.
Several other restaurants have been contacted and are expected to participate as well. More details will be provided later in the week.
In addition to the live music and festival food, organizers will set up an inflatable play set for the younger crowd. “We wanted something for the kids too,” Sowers said.
