Contestants vying for Elk District royalty raised almost 3 thousand

ELK GARDEN, W.Va. -

Just over $2,700 was raised for the Elk District Volunteer Fire Company by those contestants that were vying for local royalty status during the mountain top’s annual Firemen‘s Carnival.
Crowned as the 2008 Fire Princess was Mercy Daugherty, followed by Destiny Claywell, first runner-up, and Angel Newhouse, second runner-up.
This year’s princess was crowned by Haylee Bircher, the 2007 EDVFC Fire Princess.
Christopher Simmons, who was last year’s Fire Prince, was on hand to crown Dalton Rodeheaver as the 2008 Fire Prince.
The first runner-up was Eric Streets and the second runner-up was Dayne young.
Each of the winners received a trophy and flowers.
The contestants sold tickets for a beef drawing and also had money jars in area businesses to gain points to determine their placement as EDVFC royalty.
