KEYSER, W.Va. -

Free clothing and stuffed animal give-aways, an angel silent auction, a clown, food pantry drive, free food and drinks, mentor/parent appointments-  this is what comprised the annual Energy Express open house held Wednesday at Keyser Primary Middle School.
Coordinator Helen Cullen noted that this  year’s Open House event, which connects parents to their child’s mentor in the Energy Express program, saw a tremendous turnout.
“The turnout was wonderful,” said Cullen. “This year it was exceptionally well.”
Volunteer Betty Smith said parents came in to see what their children were doing in the six-week VISTA program that assists in increasing students’ reading skills.
“They meet mentors and see  the structure,” said Smith.
This event was held in conjunction with the seventh annual “Celebration in Parenting” fair held at Keyser Primary Middle School Wednesday from 1-3 p.m.
Energy Express wraps up on Aug. 1.
