KEYSER — Three additional people have filed pre-candidacy papers indicating their intention to run for county office next year, according to Mineral County Clerk Lauren Ellifritz.
Robert Schadler, a Republican from Keyser who is currently serving Mineral County in the House of Delegates, has filed his intention to run for circuit clerk.
He joins two other pre-candidates eyeing the same office – Gary Simmons, a Democrat from Keyser, and Krista Dixon, a Republican from New Creek. Dixon is presently an employee in the clerk's office.
Two persons have filed their intentions to run for a seat on the board of education. Michael McDowell, of Keyser, and William “Butch” Wahl Jr., of New Creek.
Members of the  non-partisan board are elected to represent the districts in which they live, so McDowell would be vying for the seat presently held by Bob Shook, while Wahl would be seeking the seat currently held by President Terry LaRue.
The third seat coming open next year is presently occupied by Vice President Kevin Watson.
In the race for the single seat on the county commission coming open this year, Ridgeley Mayor Richard Lechliter, a Republican from Ridgeley, has filed for pre-candidacy. The seat coming open is currently held by Wayne Spiggle.
According to Ellifritz, the state requires that candidates must file pre-candidacy papers in order to be able to purchase any kind of election materials or do any advertising for the upcoming race.
The local offices to be on the ballot for 2010 include county clerk and the three seats on the board of education, along with the single county commission seat and circuit clerk.
In addition,  all three seats in the U.S. House of Representatives, one  State Senate seat in each district, and all 100 House of Delegates seats in the state will be up for grabs.
