LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Mineral County 4-H Livestock Judging Team represented West Virginia at 2011 North American International Livestock Exposition held in Louisville, Ky., this month and earned a fourth place overall in the nation in the 4-H Livestock Skillathon contest.
This was the first year that West Virginia sent a team to the Skillathon Contest.
The team earned the right to represent West Virginia by winning the state 4-H livestock contest held in July in Morgantown.
The team consisted of Ryan Turner, Jessica Woodworth, Will Woodworth, and Timmy Nester.
Sarah Page and Lexi Nester, also Mineral County 4-H and FFA members, represented West Virginia by assisting in the operation of the National Livestock Judging.  Sarah and Lexi were selected to exhibit beef and swine during the contest.
The team members competing in the rigorous contest had to judge several classes of live animals, wool, and hay, identify feeds, animal science equipment, and meats, and participate in carcass evaluation and quality assurance activities.
All six 4-H members represented West Virginia and Mineral County in a very professional manner.  The team was coached by Carol Webb, agriculture instructor, and Stacey Huffman, WVU Extension agent.
