KEYSER – Potomac State College’s usually well-manicured campus will be littered with cardboard boxes on the night of Saturday, Nov. 7, as the Circle K Club holds its annual Homeless Night.
Members of the club, bundled up against the chill of the November night, will be huddled inside the boxes, attempting to get warm while learning first-hand how it feels to be without heat for warmth and a roof over their heads.
“We’ll have at least nine or 10 members out there,” club president Apryl Parks said. “We’ll have factoids to offer about being homeless, and we’ll be collecting donations for the local food pantry.”
Parks and club advisor Jay Badenhoop hope the public will come out and visit with the students, who will be “camped out” from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Everyone is also being invited to stop by with donations of money or non-perishable food items, which the club members will take to the Faith in Action Food Pantry in Keyser.
“We did this last year, and it went really well,” Parks said.
Circle K is a college-level branch of the Kiwanis Club, and is a service organization open to students at Potomac State College.
“We do projects to help better the community,” Parks said.
