KEYSER — Mineral County senior citizens on low or moderate incomes can receive a coupon for $20 worth of free produce from summertime farmers’ markets in the county.
Eligible seniors must apply this Friday, July 10, at the Boyce-Houser American Legion in Keyser, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Representatives from the Mineral County Office on Aging and Family Services will be on hand to process applications.
Applicants must appear in person and provide proof of income to receive the coupon.
To be eligible, a senior citizen living alone can have gross monthly income — before taxes — of no more than $1,670.
The monthly income limit for a two-person household is $2,247; for three people it is $2,823 and for four people, $3,400.
Applicants must be at least 60 years old to qualify for the coupon.
Part of the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program, the coupons are good for $20 worth of produce at farmers markets in Keyser, Fort Ashby and Piedmont.
The Fort Ashby farmers market opens Tuesday, July 14, the Keyser farmers market Friday, July 17 and the Piedmont farmers market Saturday July 18.
The farmers markets are then held weekly for the rest of the summer.
