KEYSER, W.Va. -

The Mineral County Board of Education (BOE) approved a 15 cent increase in the price of school lunches and breakfasts in a 4 to 1 vote, meeting with opposition from newly elected president, Terry LaRue.
LaRue was concerned about large families that rest just above the poverty line being able to provide either a school lunch or a packed lunch for their kids.
In addition to the increase in breakfasts and lunches, the board also approved a 60-day bid for milk from Potomac Farms and for bread from Butter Krust Baking Company.
Also during the BOE meeting Joann Fout and Robert Fout appeared before the board to again discuss their displeasure with the new home school policy adopted at the June 24 BOE meeting.
The policy states that home school students who enroll in more than 50 percent of classes are to be considered a full-time student, losing the home school status.
BOE members voted to revise the “Compulsory School/Attendance School Entrance” section of the Home School Policy, allowing for a two-week comment period and placing the item on the agenda for the August meeting.
