After being hospitalized for three days last week, Westernport Finance Commissioner and former Police Commissioner Tammy Kady resigned from her position, citing health concerns and high stress levels as the main causes of her decision to leave the commission.
At the Westernport City Council meeting Monday night, newly elected mayor Amel Morris read Kady's resignation letter, which stated:
“Due to a recent illness and hospitalization, it saddens me to resign from my position as commissioner,” said Morris, reading Kady's letter. “I want to thank the ones who stood behind me. I believe in these last two years, I have done everything that I possibly could for the town.”
Kady then states in her letter that she has collected an extensive number of contacts while employed by the town, which she is willing to share with town residents upon request.
Morris said that he is “very sorry” to see Kady leave.
“Tammy has health problems and I’m very sorry to hear that,” said Morris.
Morris added that when the town had one vacant seat, the police commissioner position, the city was still “clunking along but getting business taken care of.”
Now the city is in dire need of electing two new commissioners, he says, a goal he hopes to reach by the next council meeting on Monday, July 14 at 7 p.m.
“I hope we have two nominations to take the place of the two vacant seats by July 14,” said Morris.
Kady, who served the city for two out of her four year term, said during her term she felt she was the “voice” for many residents.
Since the election of Morris, however, she said “he wouldn’t listen to this voice.”
“I won't work with somebody who I don't have any contact with except for council meetings ... I don't want to sit there and do nothing for $1,500 (per year) and be a waste of time,” said Kady. “My family is very happy I’ve done this and I still will be a mouth for the community.”
