WESTERNPORT — Eleven-year-old Jaden Donnellan of Westernport has always been industrious, said her mother, Becky.
Two years ago, Donnellan assisted her mother in a yard sale by selling lemonade.
All the profits she earned she donated to a no-kill shelter through her former school-Westernport Elementary.
Going into sixth grade at Westmar Middle and anxious to play volleyball, Donnellan wanted to buy her first laptop and decided she would earn the money for it — $500 — through making and selling draft catchers.
“Our neighbor next store had a yard sale and Jaden paid her $20 for it. It’s an antique,” said Becky. “She

started making the draft catchers after her cousin showed her how. She’s always looking for something to make money.”
Crafting all colors and sizes, Donnellan showed some of her draft catchers that can be used in front of any door in the home to prevent air from coming into the house. The colorful décor also make great gifts.
Selling the catchers for just $5 each, Donnellan will be setting up her own booth — Jaden’s Creations at the upcoming Westernport Sesquicentennial festival scheduled for Aug. 16.
Becky said her daughter is able to make them very quickly.
When asked how long it takes her to craft one draft catcher, Donnellan replied, “ten minutes.”
“We’ve gone through 60 bags of rice already,” said Donnellan.
So far, Donnellan has made 50 of the 100 draft catchers she needs to sell to purchase her laptop.
When she earns the money needed to purchase the computer, Donnellan plans to continue her business.
Jaden’s sign displaying the name of her business — Jaden’s Creation — was made by Greg Terrell, owner of E.S. Fabrics of Keyser.
When Terrell learned of Donnellan’s business, he said he was impressed.
“I was impressed with her gumption, drive and ingenuity for doing this,” said Terrell, who allows Donnellan to sell her draft catchers at his business.
Besides sewing and playing sports, the Tri-Towns Basketball and JCP Soccer player enjoys cooking and reading Nancy Drew books and her local newspaper.
Donnellan is also the daughter of Bill Donnellan and the sister of 14-year-old Caleb Donnellan.
