KEYSER — Delegate Robert Schadler (R-49th) recently announced the approval of funding for 10 Community Participation Project (CPP) grants.
These awards are the result of requests Schadler received from the various groups and agencies for funding of special projects. CPPs are funded at the request of individual members of the Legislature for projects in their district. The entity requesting the award must be able to provide part of the cost of their project through local sources or other grants.
This year’s CPPs were awarded to:
— The Wiley Ford Volunteer Fire Department, $1,500 for fire safety equipment;
— The Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Department, $2,000 for fire and rescue equipment;
— The Mineral County Public Libraries, $3,200 for materials, equipment and upgrades to facilities;
— Mineral County Historical Foundation, $7,500 for renovation and preservation of historic sites;
— Fountain Volunteer Fire Department, $12,000 for EMS equipment and a structure to house ambulance;
— The Town of Carpendale, $7,500 for the completion of a Rails to Trails project;
— Mineral County Warm the Children, $5,000 to provide clothing for needy children;
— Keyser High School, $10,000 for athletic facilities, endowment and scholarship funds;
— Keyser Primary Middle School PTA, $8,000 for a playground system for K-2 students; and
— Mineral County Aging and Family Services, $10,000 for Senior Olympics program and renovations to facilities.
Del. Schadler encourages local organizations that have special projects or needs to send him a letter outlining the project and costs. The request cannot be for general expense or routine maintenance obligations.
Letters should be mailed to him at P.O. Box 251, Keyser, WV, 26726, or to his office at the Capitol, 1900 Kanawha Blvd. East, Building 1, Room 6-R, Charleston, WV, 25305.
All requests must be received before March 1, 2009, and will be considered, provided that funding for CPPs is allocated in the FY2010 state budget.
