KEYSER — Receiving an average of one new complaint each month, members of the Mineral County Building Safety Agency started the process  Tuesday to deal with a structure they determined has health and safety issues.
With photos of the structure to emphasize the immediate attention for removal of trash and debris from the property, Scott Clay, county planner, stated the house is located on Route 46, about one mile from the area where the Z Tower once stood between Keyser and Piedmont.
Jim Dolly questioned if the structure was occupied, and asked, “How can the residents get to the door?”
While not sure of the number of inhabitants in the structure, Clay did mention, “I understand there are three
individuals living in the house.”
Clay also stated a letter was sent informing the owner to be aware of regulations concerning
the accumulation of trash on the property, which could constitute an illegal open dump site.
Stating the owner has one month to contact him, Clay said, “We are asking for cooperation from the owner before further action is taken.”
A complaint registered in September concerning a house in Wiley Ford and the conditions of overgrown vegetation, an abundance of debris, and several buildings on the property being open for easy access, is, according to Clay “On the way to being resolved.”
The owner left the area several years ago for employment, leaving the house in the hands of renters.
The owner was on site of the property during last weekend, and Clay stated, “He needs to be applauded for the work and cooperation in this matter.”
MCBSA members agreed to allow an additional month for the work to be completed on the Wiley Ford house.
The date for the next meeting of the Building Safety Agency has not yet been set, but when scheduled will be a combination of a November and December meeting.
