East Pointe Ballet Academy & Company, a performing arts academy, located at 7 Allegheny Street in Keyser, West Virginia recently held the first of its summer 2008 ballet camps. East Pointe Ballet under the direction of Melissa Purdy has been hosting summer ballet camps for the past 5 years but was pleased to be able to hold this year’s first camp in its new warehouse studios with professional dance floors, barres, and mirrors and plenty of air-conditioned space for lots of activities.
Dancers ages 4-9 enjoyed an opportunity to learn the basic elements of the Vaganova style of ballet, make ballet related crafts, hear ballet stories, play ballet games, learn a ballet dance, and have a snack.
Melissa, a local educator, brings 17+ years of professional and college dance training and education with her to offer students a quality experience.
Every year, the activities are different but one activity that remains the same and is enjoyed by all is the culminating in-class performance on Friday where students get to wear a costume of their choice and show family and friends what they have learned for the week.
East Pointe Ballet is not just another dance studio, but a performing arts academy.
The goal of East Pointe Ballet is to provide quality instruction in ballet and jazz dancing while building self-esteem and providing performing arts opportunities.
East Pointe Ballet performs at least two ballets per year throughout the local area at their own performances and also at festivals and events.
East Pointe Ballet provides instruction at a low-cost per month. There is no fund-raising involved and parents do not have to pay for costumes as they are provided on loan to company members.
Happening yet this summer, a Ballet/Jazz Camp for ages 5-9 will be offered on July 13-17th from 2-4 p.m. and an Older Ballet Camp II for ages 10-up will also be offered on July 13th-17th from 6-8 p.m.
A variety of preballet, ballet, jazz, and pointe classes are available throughout the school year.
Registration for fall classes is on-going and can be mailed in, but will also be held at the studios on Thursday, July 24th and August 7th from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Please contact Melissa Purdy at (304) 788-1414 or (304) 790-1486 to register for camp or class or for further information.
