KEYSER —Former Mineral County Office of Emergency Management director Marc Bashoor has been named acting chief of the Fire/Emergency Medical Services Department of Prince George's County, Md.
Bashoor, who's last day as OEM director in Mineral County was Friday, Dec. 3, is returning home, as he had retired from the Prince George's County Fire and EMS after 23 years of service prior to coming to Mineral County.
When he resigned, Bashoor said he could not divulge where he was going, but called the move “a challenge and an opportunity that is the right time for my family and I to pursue."
Announcement of Bashoor's appointment was made Monday by Rushern L. Baker III, Prince George's county executive.
During his 23 years of service, Bashoor rose through the ranks of Prince George's County Fire/EMS Department, receiving numerous citations and commendations including the Fire/EMS Department Silver Medal of Valor, according to the Prince George's County Fire/EMS blotspot at pgfdpio.com.
“After a rewarding career commanding some of the busiest stations and battalions in the county, coordinating some of our largest training endeavors, and building up the Department’s Special Operations Division, Bashoor retired as the deputy fire chief of operations at the beginning of 2005 to take a position as the director of Homeland Security for Mineral County,” the site said.
“Concurrent to his emergency management duties in West Virginia, Bashoor has served as a consultant with the United States Veterans Administration, a fire service adjunct instructor with the Texas A&M University, and is a member of FEMA's Technology Transfer Working Group. Furthermore, Bashoor has been recognized by the Maryland Police Training Commission as a National Incident Management System (NIMS) subject-matter-expert. These highlights merely touch the surface of Chief Bashoor’s experience and commitment to public safety.”
