The case of the 26 missing laptops at Keyser High School totalling approximately $20,000 in missing property is still under investigation by the Mineral County Sheriff’s Department, but no suspect has been charged.
“It is still under investigation,” said Dfc. R.C. Reall, officer in charge of the case. “I have a few suspects that will be brought in for questioning. That is all I can release at this time.”
On Wednesday, June 4, two computers were reported missing at Keyser High School, followed by 24 additional laptops that could not be accounted for on Thursday, June 5.
According to Reall, the computers were removed from a single classroom, but were apparently utilized by various classes in the school.
Superintendent of Mineral County Schools Tilden “Skip” Hackworth could not be reached for comment.
Last month, he said that he hopes to see the computers recovered quickly.
“We’re aware what has happened, but we are not sure exactly when it occurred,” said Hackworth, in a statement in June. “Personnel at Keyser High School asked us if we wanted to pursue this and we said yes. The school turned it over to the Mineral County Sheriff’s Department for investigation. Getting the equipment returned is our desire right now.”
Anybody who has information on this case is urged to contact Reall at (304) 788-0341 or (304) 788-0441.
