KEYSER — A proposed plan to consolidate USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) offices throughout the state could result in the closure of the Keyser office.
The FSA provides a wide variety of services to area farm owners and operators, including assistance with loans, farm records, the Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program, and other issues.
Should the consolidation occur, the nearest Farm Service office for Mineral County farmers would be in Romney.
According to the USDA, however, members of the public will have the opportunity to voice their opinion about the proposed closure during a public hearing scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 2, at 1 p.m. at the Mineral County Health Department.
FSA’s public meeting will be the only one held to take public comment on the proposed consolidation plan.
Producers can also provide written comment by emailing Alfred.lewis@wv.usda.gov or sending written comment to WV State FSA Office, Alfred J. Lewis, SED, 1550 Earl Core Road, Suite 102, Morgantown, WV 26505, no later than Feb. 12, 2012.
All public comments will be taken into full consideration prior to development or implementation of a final consolidation plan.
USDA is an equal opportunity provider, employer and lender.
Persons with disabilities who require accommodations to attend or participate in this meeting should contact the WV FSA Office at 304 284-4803, john.pettit@wv.usda.gov or Federal Relay Service @ 1-866-377-8642 by Monday January 30, 2012.
