FORT ASHBY — Mineral County Fair Chairman Todd Middleton says the 60th annual Mineral County Fair will have a new look this year, with the signing of new amusement and ride vendor Gambril Amusements.
“There will be a new look and added value to fair-goers,” said Middleton. “We will be changing where campers set up. It will be a great change for the 2009 fair and for many fairs to come.”
At the 72nd annual Fort Ashby Fire Department Banquet held Saturday, April 27, at the fairgrounds, Middleton shared a special preview of the upcoming fair scheduled for Monday, July 27, to Saturday, Aug. 1.
Many new entertainers that were featured at the state fair convention have been added to the schedule for this year, said Middleton.
Monday night will feature a free
fair showcase with Charlie Kenny performing on stage, the 2009 Fair Queen Pageant, games, and barn exhibition. No rides will be featured on this day.
On Tuesday evening, the full fair extravaganza kicks off at 6 p.m. with rides and the track opening at 7 p.m.
Figure 8 racing will be featured on Wednesday, with the Teal Steal band from Frankfort Middle School performing.
On Thursday, there will be two new attractions — an ATV pull for local and out-of-town riders, as well as the Jody Hott Band.
“She sings Pat Benatar and Gretchen Wilson,” said Middleton.
The famous mud bog will kick off on Friday at 6 p.m., with the band Appalachia performing from 7-9 p.m.
The firemen’s parade is slated for Saturday, with lineup at 3 p.m. and commencement set for 4. Gates to the fair will open at 5 p.m., with the track event starting at 6 p.m.
“Rocky Lynn, who appeared on 'Good Morning America' and has performed on the Grand Ole Opry and CMT, will be playing,” said Middleton.
“This is a country veteran sure to please people of all ages.”
The Mineral County Fair is the top fundraiser for the Fort Ashby Fire Department.
