KEYSER — The Mineral County Chamber of Commerce and Mineral County Committee on Aging are sponsoring a consumer credit presentation that will help educate area residents about new credit card legislation and its effect on debt collection, credit disputes and the lemon law.
The presentation will also include discussion on Medicare fraud.
The Sept. 15 event, to be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Pines Restaurant, will feature attorneys from the West Virginia Attorney General's Office, and its Consumer Protection Division. The meeting is free and open to the public.
Anne Palmer, director of the Mineral County Chamber of Commerce, said the chamber and Committee on Aging sponsored the presentation as a way to inform area residents of changes that are taking place in the area of consumer protection as a result of the Credit Card Accountability, Responsibility and Disclosure Act, recently signed into law by President Barack Obama.
“We just felt it was important to get this information out to people,” said Palmer, noting the expertise
of the staff attorneys from the Attorney General's Office who will conduct the presentation.
Among the officials scheduled to conduct presentations are Deputy Attorney General Jill Miles, who oversees the Consumer Protection and Antitrust Division, and Doug Davis and Kimberly Jones, staff attorneys in the division.
While there is no charge to attend the presentation, the Chamber is asking anyone who is interested in attending to call the office at 304-788-2513 or send an email to office@mineralchamber.com.
