Keyser, W.Va. -

Although the Veterans Day program planned for the courthouse lawn Wednesday morning had been canceled, representatives of the Keyser Volunteer Fire Company and the City of Keyser held an impromtu wreath-laying ceremony at the memorial marker.
In full dress uniform, KVFD members Shane Hanlin and Josiah Bennett placed the wreath at the base of the marker which memorializes Mineral County residents who made the supreme sacrifice while serving their country.
“We want to thank all the families who lost loved ones in service, and to remember and honor those who are out there serving now,” Keyser City Councilman Dave Sowers said.
Keyser resident Flo Boggs, who was also in attendance, also remembered those who lost their lives or loved ones as a result of the shooting last week at Fort Hood, Texas.
Chris Paitsel, a KVFD firefighter and Keyser City police officer, offered a brief prayer.
Also present for the observance was Bob Dorsey, 68-year member of the Keyser Volunteer Fire Department and a veteran of World War II.
