It is evident that Kevin Mansfield, the new owner of Rainbow Lanes and new manager, C.P. Sines, have a  passion for bowling, and their passion is spilling out into their business as they propel Rainbow Lanes bowling alley in a new direction.
“I love the atmosphere and everything about bowling, the only thing I hate about bowling is sitting in here and not hearing the sound of pins dropping,” said Mansfield.
Mansfield, who is originally from Columbia, Missouri, recently moved to pursue his dream of owning a bowling alley. Mansfield noted that his wife Georganne, who is currently a teacher in Missouri, wanted to live some place with mountains and snow. Mansfield added that he looked at bowling alleys in Utah and Wyoming, not considering the east as an option. That is until his wife found an add on the internet listing Rainbow Lanes for sale.
Mansfield and his wife visited Keyser and were pleased with the bowling alley and fell immediately in love with Keyser.
“This bowling alley was the best one we had looked at by far,” said Mansfield. Mansfield added that he liked the fact that the bowling alley had synthetic lanes, carpet, and up to date scoring equipment.
On July 17,  Mansfield purchased Rainbow Lanes, where he currently lives their with his 17-year-old son Tyler, Georganne still lives in Mo. but will move when she finishes  the school year.  The Mansfields also have a 23-year-old daughter,Ashley, who is a graduate student at in Kansas City and is working towards a Doctor of Pharmacy degree.
Not only do Mansfield and Sines bring their passion of bowling to the table but they also bring their many years of experience as well. Combined they have 78 years of bowling experience.   Mansfield has been bowling for 35 years and Sines for 43 years and both are bronze-certified bowling instructors, who are willing to help their customers learn how to bowl better. Mansfield’s previous experience includes operating a pro shop for several years and coaching youth and adults. He is also a USBC certified lane inspector and has served on transition boards for the USBC
While in Missouri, Mansfield was on two bowling leagues, the VFW league and the Metro league. His accomplishments include four 300’s, two of which were in sanctioned leagues, and a high series of 793.
Mansfield has three main goals, as new owner, having employees who are passionate about bowling to increase the public’s interest in bowling, having a pro shop and having a youth league.
All of which he has already set out to accomplish. Mansfield has already turned the old party room into a pro shop, the only one in Keyser.  The pro shop contains roughly about 100 pieces of equipment, 12 of which are major pieces of equipment and include a ball drilling machine, two resurfacing machines, and several scales.  With this equipment, Mansfield is able to meet the USBC standards of weight six to 16 lb. and the side and top weight of 1oz.  This equipment affords Mansfield the opportunity to  size bowling balls to fit a customers hand and to clean and sand out dings on old bowling balls.
Mansfield is also trying to enlarge the youth league for younger customers. Mansfield hopes to start a bumper league for 4-year olds.  Mansfield added that high school age leaguers would not be required to attend the league every time and he would be willing to work around other sports schedules.
“Youth are the future of bowling— it’s something that you can start as a kid and continue with until your 90 and still be competitive,” said Mansfield. “I want all the kids to check out our youth league and maybe join.”
In addition to these three main goals, Mansfield plans to be open on Thanksgiving from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. and on Christmas Day with a lunch with Santa planned for mid December.
Rainbow Lanes is also holding one dollar Mondays and specials on Tuesdays and Thursdays, special League prices, and birthday packages. Rainbow Lanes is still holding Ballistic Bowling on Saturdays. Mansfield asks that customers call ahead to reserve their lane.
