Alliant Techsystems Tactical Systems Co. LLC was recently awarded a three-year almost $10 million contract with Naval Surface Center (NSWC) out of Indian Head Md.
According to Gary Geiger the open-ended contract is being used to develop a new process currently being used.
“There is no specific contract but if something comes up later we will already have a contract,” said Geiger.
According to Geiger the new contract will not directly affect the aerospace and defense company, which has 17,000 employees in 21 states, including nearly 1,275 workers at Rocket Center.
The Indian Head Division of NSWC has over 1,200 employees some of whom are scientists, engineers, technicians and support personnel all devoted to ensure the safety of the U.S. Armed Forces and securing the nation’s military superiority in present and future armed conflicts.
Their mission statement is to “provide research, development, test and evaluation and in-service support of energetics and energetic materials for warheads, propulsion systems, ordnance and pyrotechnic devices and fuzing for Navy, Joint Forces, and the Nation, to include research, test, and engineering of chemicals, propellants, explosives, related electronic devices, associated ordnance equipment and special weapons support. Execute other responsibilities as assigned by the Commander, Naval Surface Warfare Center.”
