ELK GARDEN – It’s almost time. Following up on a successful parade last year, Elk Garden has set its Christmas parade for Saturday, Dec. 8.

Parade line-up will begin at 2 p.m., with the parade to roll off at 3 p.m. led by grand marshals Tom and Gwen Golden.

Residents are encouraged to rally their churches, families, community groups and businesses to participate in this annual event.

Those who haven’t signed up should contact Mayor Marian Droppleman or a member of the town council to be added to the list.

The parade will make its way through the streets of town, winding back to the town hall for the annual Christmas tree lighting and reception.

There will be a special observance as ornaments in memory or honor of others are placed on the town tree during the lighting ceremony.

Everyone is invited to enjoy refreshments, while the little ones get a chance to sit on Santa’s lap and get a treat from Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Decorating and preparations for the tree and nativity are planned for this week with the arrival of the wise men for nativity.

As the council met for its December meeting, members noted that the town is ready for winter.

Droppleman praised crews for the recent plowing. She also noted that the town will help their neighbors when possible.

“If there’s anybody sick or handicapped that needs to go to the hospital and they ask, we will help,” she said of the plow crew.

Work is continuing at the town hall with the replacement of the door and locks. Members also noted that double locks must be locked at the bathrooms in the park.

A bench and new picnic table are being purchased for the park from the Love Thy Neighbor program at the Elk Garden United Methodist Church.
