KEYSER - Donations of school supplies are now being accepted for backpacks to be given away as part of the New Voice New Vision K-Town Celebration Saturday, Aug. 11, in Keyser’s South End Park.
The event is being sponsored by Faith Productions, the group that has presented two different movies in the park this summer, in addition to the Old-Fashioned Fourth of July Celebration at the West End Park.
The group hopes to give away 500 backpacks full of pencils, pens, paper, notebooks and more. The number of backpacks to be given out depends upon the amount of donations received for this first-ever community-wide giveaway.
Those wishing to donate school supplies for the giveaway may drop them off at the John R. Shelton Swimming Pool between noon and 6 p.m. every day, at the office of the Mineral Daily News Tribune between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on weekdays, or at 181 W. Piedmont St.
The Saturday celebration will get underway at 11 a.m., and will feature vendors, food, games, giveaways and music.
Vendors that have signed up thus far to participate include Duckies, Port West, Chic Bowtique, Origami Owl, Scentsy, Nerium, Lipsense, Storytime Jewelry and Crafts, Mountainside Gifts, Face Painting, and more.
Faith Productions will sell funnel cakes, fried Oreos, nachos, hotdogs, cotton candy, popcorn, and drinks. There will also be a BackYard Bears Chainsaw Carving exhibit, Kona Ice, and several more events.
The craft vendors will be set up from noon to 6 p.m.; the food vendors will be set up from noon until the event ends.
Guest speakers will include Kendra Disspain, who will give her testimony about how she overcame her addiction.
Jake Everline will provide music prior to the headliner, national recording artist Jordan Copas.
