WESTERNPORT - Five Westernport citizens are vying for the three open government positions in the municipal election to be held Tuesday, May 22.
John Thomas Martin and William E. Mayles Jr. are running for the office of mayor, which is a two-year term.
Daniel Laffey, the present mayor, chose not to run for re-election.
Of the five commissioner spots, two of the present commissioners decided not to run for re-election, and they are Fred Pritts and Bob Lupton.
Presently Pritts is the streets commissioner and Lupton serves as the finance director.
Those who filed for election to the Westernport commission, which is four-year term, are Michael Clayton Amoroso, Allen Shapiro, and Philip Charles Whetstone.
Those Westernport citizens who are not registered voters and wish to vote in the municipal election have through May 1 to complete that process.
May 8 is the last day to request an absentee ballot and they must be returned to the city building before the polls close on May 22.
