KEYSER - After voting last fall to contribute $3,000 toward the purchase of a new K-9 officer for Potomac State College, the Keyser mayor and council were recently able to see where the money went.
PSC Campus Police Sgt. Mike Cannon brought new K-9 officer Kato to the March 28 Keyser City Council meeting to let the city officials meet the latest addition to the force.
A purebred German shepherd, Kato is 2 1/2 years old and is trained to detect drugs and also to conduct article searches.
Kato replaces Aria, who passed away last year and was also handled by Cannon.
The city council had voted to contribute toward Kato’s purchase because the Keyser Police Department no longer has a K-9 officer and works in conjunction with the PSC Campus Police when a dog is needed within the city limits.
