FROSTBURG - A Piedmont man was arrested on multiple drug charges Friday when Allegany County deputies observed him driving a vehicle with no tags on Interstate 68 near Frostburg.
According to the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 10:17 p.m. Friday, a deputy was on routine patrol in the area of Interstate 68 west at the Frostburg exit when he observed an Oldsmobile Alero that had no visible registration plate.
The deputy followed the vehicle onto southbound Route 36 and initiated a traffic stop on Route 36 near Cabin Run Road.
The deputy identified the driver of the vehicle as 32-year-old Cody Ray Broadwater of Piedmont. During the investigation, the deputy learned that Broadwater was wanted on two Maryland District Court bench warrants and found that the vehicle was unregistered, uninsured and the driver did not possess a valid driver’s license.
After submitting to field sobriety tests, Broadwater was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI.
Deputies said a subsequent search of the vehicle yielded an amount of methamphetamine and other drug paraphernalia.
Broadwater was transported to the District Court Commissioner’s Office, where he was evaluated by a drug recognition expert with the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office. Upon completion of the evaluation, Broadwater was taken before the District Court Commissioner for an initial appearance.
In addition to the bench warrants, Broadwater was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance not marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving without a license, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, failure to drive on right half of roadway, driving while impaired by drugs, and driving vehicle while impaired by a controlled dangerous substance.
Broadwater was held in lieu of $3,000 bond and transported to the Allegany County Detention Center.
