RIDGELEY – Mark Jones became Ridgeley’s newest mayor Wednesday, following the resignation of Butch Hawse who filled the mayor’s post in December due to the passing of late Mayor Lynn Carr.
Hawse resigned Wednesday citing unforeseen circumstances.
He was elected to the council in 2013 and served as finance commissioner before stepping into the mayor’s seat in December.
Jones has worked his way up through the council ranks. He served as recorder, then was elected as water and sewer commissioner, a post he held for four terms until becoming finance commissioner when Hawse moved to mayor.
Rounding out the council are Duke Lantz, Don McFarland, and Tanya Ryan, who were elected in 2017, and Nick Imes, who was appointed to fill Hawse’s unexpired term in January.
