ELK GARDEN – When Elk Garden officials decided to have a Christmas parade, they had no idea the large turnout it would draw or the doors it would open.
Many local and areas businesses were on hand for the parade and tree lighting and a special meeting with the businesses is being planned as representatives meet with John Lecky of the Mineral County Chamber of Commerce and Mineral County Commissioner Jerry Whisner.
Mineral County Commissioner Richard Lechliter was on hand for the recent town meeting, requesting a representative to the Mineral County Ambulance Authority from the town.  If approved by the authority, Kevin Broadwater will be the town’s representative.
In other business, the town recognized the donation of the nativity set by Hiram Lodge.
Plans are underway to erect a sign marking the town hall. Repairs are also needed to the utility sink and restroom at the town hall.
It was noted that the speed bumps were not removed as planned due to an issue with the bolts breaking. Those plowing snow will need to be aware of the bumps and cautious when plowing.
The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4 at the town hall.
