KEYSER - Thanks to the generosity of the people of Mineral County, the Warm the Children campaign was able to provide warm winter clothing for 473 children this year.
Although there was enough money raised to provide for all 528 children who were on the list, 55 of those children did not receive services due to coordinators not being able to reach the parents, the children no longer needing services, or similar circumstances.
According to coordinator Dayla Harvey, three attempts are made at reaching the parents. If at that time they still cannot be reached, the child is taken off the list.
Harvey said 45 parents could not be reached, six children no longer needed assistance from the program, two children had moved away, two children’s parents did not show up for the shopping trip.
A total of $31,200.53 was raised this year, and $34,004.23 was spent, thanks to carry-over money from last year’s campaign.
“We had a starting balance to begin shopping this year and the same will be true for 2018,” Harvey said.
A list of all those who contributed to the campaign can be found inside today’s paper.
