CUMBERLAND - Cumberland City Police are looking for a suspect in the Friday morning robbery of First United Bank & Trust in Cumberland.
According to the Cumberland PD, at 9:27 a.m. Friday, officers responded to First United Bank on Harrison Street in Cumberland, after a hold-up alarm was received from that location.
The first arriving officers learned that a lone male suspect had entered the bank, approached a teller, and presented a note demanding money. The teller complied with the demand and gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect then exited the bank and fled the area on foot.
The Cumberland Police, with assistance from the Allegany County Sheriff's Office, the Maryland State Police, a Maryland State Police K-9, and Maryland State Police helicopter Trooper 5, searched the area, but the suspect was not located at that time.
Investigators with the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I) responded to the scene to assist in the investigation. Through interviews, investigators learned that the suspect had first approached the bank prior to when the bank opened at 9 a.m. The suspect tried the door, found it was still locked, and left at that time, headed toward Queen City Drive.
A short time later the suspect returned to the bank, and it was at that time that the suspect approached the teller and presented the note to the them.
Investigators were able to review surveillance video and determined that the suspect fled the bank on foot, ran through the bank parking lot, and headed south on Queen City Drive, in the direction of Roy Rogers and Peppers.
The suspect is a white male, wearing a black hoodie and lighter colored pants, possibly gray in color, and gloves. The suspect was wearing what is believed to be a fake blond-colored wig, a fake dark-colored beard, dark sunglasses, and had the hood pulled up around his face, all to try to disguise his identity.
The suspect did not display a weapon during the incident.
Investigators continue to interview possible witnesses and review surveillance video from nearby businesses.
