CUMBERLAND - The Golden Tornado Band once again earned first place in its category Saturday in the Tournament of Bands competition at Greenway Avenue Stadium in Cumberland.

CUMBERLAND - The Golden Tornado Band once again earned first place in its category Saturday in the Tournament of Bands competition at Greenway Avenue Stadium in Cumberland.
Hosted by Allegany High School, the competition saw 10 high school bands take the field to entertain the audience.
Competing in Group 2 Open, Keyser received a score of 83.80 and top special awards for visuals, music, auxiliary and percussion.
Another area band, Mountain Ridge, took first place in their category, with a score of 85.75. They also won the top price for visuals, music, auxiliary and percussion.
Frankfort High School, a non-competitive band, was participating in the Festival of Bands in Morgantown Saturday.
Winners of the other categories, and their scores, were:
Group 1A: Southern Garrett High School of Oakland, 82.30.
Group 2A: Johnstown High School, 82.05.
Group 1O: Brunswick High School, 77.90.
Group 3O: Fort Hill High School, 84.50.
Allegany High School, which performed in exhibition, received a score of 88.55.
Keyser is now ranked at No. 7 in Group 2 for the Tournament of Bands ranking.
Information was not available on Mt. Ridge’s ranking.
Next week, Keyser will be traveling to Tyrone, Pennsylvania, for Music in the Valley at Gray-Veteran Memorial Field.
Competition begins at 4 p.m., and the St. Francis University Marching Band will be performing in exhibition.
Keyser will then skip a week due to Homecoming, then go into the Chapter 13 championships Oct. 21 at Fairmont State University.
