KEYSER - The Alumni Association at West Virginia University’s Potomac State College is finalizing plans for Homecoming 2017.
A number of alumni are slated to be honored during the special week.
Being recognized with the Alumni Achievement Award is F. Scott Rotruck, Class of 1975. Mara Boggs, Class of 1998, will be honored with the Distinguished Service Award; and two individuals have been chosen for the Young Alumni Achievement Award, Chance Coughenour, Class of 2002 and Randi Dove, Class of 2012.
Homecoming events will kick off on Thursday, Oct. 5, with the crowning of the Homecoming King and Queen during the students’ annual Homecoming Dance.
The Candlewyck Inn will host the annual ’50s Get Together on Friday evening, Oct., 6 beginning at 6 p.m. The cost is $22.50 per person and the deadline for reservations is Sept. 30. RSVPs are required.
There will be a Farm Renaming Ceremony on Saturday, Oct. 7, at the former Upper Farm beginning at 10:30 a.m. Everyone is invited for a light brunch as the college renames the Ag Tech facility, green house, upper farm, and the Fort Ashby farm in honor of the Starcher, Gustafson and Malone families.
Besides the renaming ceremony, the Mary F. Shipper Library will also unveil and give a demonstration of their new drone.
Next, the annual alumni baseball game will begin at noon at Golden Park. Former Catamount baseball players will have the opportunity to lace up the spikes and brush the dust off their gloves as they face off with the current Catamount team. Families are encouraged to attend.
Activities for the kids include face painting and a jump house. There will also be hot dogs and beer for the adults.
Don’t forget to stop by the bookstore for college memorabilia, which will be open from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. for those interested in purchasing PSC or WVU items. Be sure to stop by and see recent changes to the Mary F. Shipper Library which will be open from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
The day will culminate with the Awards Banquet, which is being held in the Davis Conference Center. Social Hour begins at 5:30 p.m. with dinner at 6 p.m. The cost of the dinner is $25 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under. RSVPs are required and the deadline for reservations for the banquet and the ’50s Get Together is Sept. 30.
