SHORT GAP - The Frankfort High School Marching Band is gearing up for the upcoming school year with a field show that is sure to be a crowd pleaser.
The 74-member band will perform music from iconic film composer John Williams, and the show will consist of some of the most popular and recognizable films scores in cinematic history, including “E.T.-the Extra Terrestrial,” “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” and “Princess Leia’s Theme” and “Throne Room” from “Star Wars.”
The Falcon Band, also affectionately known as “Mineral County’s Finest,” just completed a spectacular school year where it made history for the second consecutive time. On Jan. 20, the band performed for the Inaugural Parade of President Trump in Washington, D.C.  It had previously performed for President Obama’s second Inaugural Parade in 2013.
In addition to performing for the President, the band also performed at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom in Orlando, Florida.
In June the band graduated a strong senior class of 25 students.  With many talented students coming from the Frankfort Middle School Band, the FHS Band is fortunate to have 27 new members in its ranks.
The band has already given its first performance of the season.  On Saturday, June 24, current and alumni band members performed in the Mineral County Fair parade in Fort Ashby.
The band plans to perform in three additional parades, including the Kennywood Fall Fantasy Parade on Saturday, Aug. 12, the South Cumberland Halloween Parade in October, and the Mineral County Veterans Day Parade in November.
In addition to its parade performances, the band will perform at the Preston High School Music in the Mountains competition in Kingwood on Saturday, Sept. 23.
On Saturday, Sept. 30, the band will travel to Morgantown to perform in the Morgantown Band Spectacular at Milan Puskar Stadium.
