CUMBERLAND – The YMCA of Cumberland and the Mineral County Family Resource Network are partnering for a program geared toward helping enrich the lives of children and their families.
The Keyser Energizer Program will offer weekly recreational activities for children ages 4-13 and will include jump roping clubs, basketball, swimming, volleyball, and more.
Family Literacy and Fun Nights will be held monthly and feature a family style meal, breakout sessions for the parents and the children, and a combined group activity.
“The Y is excited to expand our services in Mineral County and working together with Gerri Mason from the Mineral County Family Resource Network will be the key to us experiencing success.” says Don Enterline, CEO of the Y.
The Mineral County Family Resource Network (MCFRN) supports and promotes the collaboration of all citizens in Mineral County to develop strategies for the community to succeed.
The MCFRN has served as an information clearinghouse for the community in the areas of child and family services. It has facilitated discussions between organizations and agencies providing services on how to best serve the needs of the community. The MCFRN partners with citizens and local organizations to develop, coordinate, and administer innovative programs and provide needed resources, and strives to be a leader in community development and asset building.
Through this collaboration between the MCFRN and the Y, a Neighborhood Investment Grant was acquired to start the Keyser Energizer Program.
The intent of the project is to enrich the lives of youths (ages 4-13 years old) and their families with programs for family literacy, youth mentoring and positive recreational activities.
The first Family Fun night kickoff event will be held on Friday, Aug. 11, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the Mineral County Family Resource Network Complex, located at 251 W. Piedmont St. in Keyser.
Catamount Children’s Center will host the activity rooms in their center located on the complex. There will be arts and crafts, story time with puppets, a jungle hunt, and more.
Information for the parents, a family door prize and light refreshments will also be provided. Space is limited. Call 304-788-9099 to make a reservation.
