FOUNTAIN - Before she retired at the end of June, Roberta Unger, principal of Fountain Primary School, completed her last project - a mural of the school's mascot.
Geoffrey Green of Burlington, husband of retired FPS pre-k teacher Betsy Green, created the children's play blocks concept for the design.
The bulldog logo was originally conceived for the school by past principal Gary Bowen, as he had a pet bulldog. Jennifer Tasker, past Fountain parent volunteer, located the cute bulldog on the Internet in 2002.
The school's Local School Improvement Council had the suggestion of adding a motto - Together We Stand - to complete the mural.
Unger wedded the concepts and Arlove Gillen of LaVale used her artistic liberties in drawing and painting the mural.  An art major, she had previous experience in creating and painting the murals around Cumberland’s Constitution Park swimming pools.
Past students of FPS, Derrick Loar and Lacey Loar, painted the primary coat of paint, with help from Mrs. Unger.
The mural was discussed by the school's staff while the students submitted proposed designs, and the final concept was voted on by the LSIC this school year.
