KEYSER - Mineral County Board president Kevin Watson will not receive any payment for his service as interim head football coach at Frankfort High School.
Watson was approved as the new interim on a 4-0 vote during Monday’s regular board meeting.
To avoid any conflict of interest, Watson recused himself from the vote and left the room as his fellow board members made the decision.
Board member William Ludwick made the motion to appoint Watson, and Tom Denne seconded it.
Board member Rob Woy presided over the vote in the physical absence of vice president Lara Courrier, who was ill but participating in the meeting via telephone.
Superintendent Shawn Dilly made note that Watson would receive no pay for the position. It is policy that any board member serving on a coaching or extracurricular staff in the county not be paid for his or her services.
Watson is the second interim coach at Frankfort since head coach Kevin Whiteman was placed on suspension by the county in early 2016 after being accused of making inappropriate comments to three female students on separate occasions.
Last year, assistant coach Craig Scott was named interim coach, but he resigned that position as of June 1. His resignation was among the personnel actions approved by the board on Monday.
