RIDGELEY - Winning mayoral candidate Sondra McDaniel has been disqualified from serving in Ridgeley’s town government, therefore returning incumbent mayor Lynn Carr to his seat.
Town clerk Renee Martz confirmed Monday that McDaniel, who had been declared the unofficial winner in the June 13 race, with 85 votes to Carr’s 48 votes, had been disqualified because she was not in compliance with the town’s charter.
“You have to be a registered voter in the town at the time of filing, and apparently she was not,” Martz said.
The filing period for candidates was in January.
All voting results are considered unofficial until the ballots are canvassed, and that was performed on Monday.
The results for those running for the five council seats remained the same: Butch Hawse, 85 votes; Don McFarland, 80; Mark Jones, 67; Duke Lantz, 54; and Tanya Ryan, 42.
The unsuccessful candidates on Tuesday’s ballot included former mayor Jim Twigg, Justin Golden, David Jenkins, and Sandra Allen.
The Ridgeley Council will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, June 27, at which time the mayor and council members will be officially sworn in.
